Summertime overheating in dwellings in temperate climates

چکیده
Summertime overheating in both new and existing dwellings is widespread increasing, even temperate climates. There an urgent need to solve the problem. Flats (apartments) small dwellings, especially those cities, are particularly at risk. Elderly vulnerable people affected. This briefing note presents current knowledge about this problem what might be done it. It directed planners, designers, policymakers as well local authorities, housing associations other organisations that manage stocks of dwellings. Key findings •The research community others have revealed extent, severity causes summertime dwellings.•Flats, climates, risk overheating. •Methods construction refurbishment global warming making worse.•Overheating affects mortality morbidity, with elderly affected.•Well-established passive heat-protection measures can, most cases, prevent or remove problem.•Examples good design practice being verified through monitoring occupant experience surveys.•Professionals concerned must now focus on keeping them cool summer warm winter.

Adaptation to temperate climates.
Only model organisms live in a world of endless summer. Fitness at temperate latitudes reflects the ability of organisms in nature to exploit the favorable season, to mitigate the effects of the unfavorable season, and to make the timely switch from one life style to the other. Herein, we define fitness as Ry, the year-long cohort replacement rate across all four seasons, of the mosquito, Wyeom...
متن کاملMilk and Beef Production in Temperate Climates
Milk production in the temperate climates accounts for 66% of the world milk output. In North America only about 20% of beef originates from dairy herds, while in Europe beef production is a by-product of dairying. Several studies showed small genetic correlations between milk and beef traits, thus suggesting the possibility of simultaneous selection for both .characteristics. European breeding...
متن کاملPhenology of temperate trees in tropical climates.
Several North American broad-leaved tree species range from the northern United States at approximately 47 degrees N to moist tropical montane forests in Mexico and Central America at 15-20 degrees N. Along this gradient the average minimum temperatures of the coldest month (T (Jan)), which characterize annual variation in temperature, increase from -10 to 12 degrees C and tree phenology change...
متن کاملSummertime Impact of Climate Change on Multi-occupancy British Dwellings
Recent climate change projections estimate that the average summertime temperature in the southern part of Great Britain may increase by up to 5.4°C by the end of the century. The general consensus is that projected increases in temperature will render British dwellings vulnerable to summer overheating and by the middle of this century it may become difficult to maintain a comfortable indoor en...
متن کاملModelling Climate Change Adaptation Measures to Reduce Overheating Risk in Existing Dwellings
Overheating during hot summers is a major risk which will increase under climate change. Thermal dynamic modelling is used to compare the current overheating risk of typical residential properties in the UK with the future overheating risk for the middle decades of this century, i.e. the period 20402069. A wide range of passive and low-energy climate change adaptation measures which could be re...
